All living creatures feel fear and pain why do prey animals get away from predators?

Exactly. It's an evolutionary benefit for survival! But I'm so glad science can now help quantify their emotional states and put old arguments to bed :)

Thank you for writing this. It's always amazed me that there are pescatarians who won't eat meat & poultry which at least is stunned before slaughter. Fin fish welfare has a long way to go.

Thank you so much, Cheryl! I'm completely with you - there's a big gap in compassion and fish welfare!

I never really understood where the idea that fish don't feel pain would come from, from a logical standpoint. Other vertebrates certainly do. Of course, the narrative serves to enable cruelty for the sake of profit. And even if they didn't feel it, why would that be any reason to mistreat a living being? Great job on putting together such a detailed and rock-solid article!

I'm completely with you! I find it quite surprising that certain scientists hold such strong opinions against it. Thank you so much for your kind comment, Idris! 🐟
